* Hi Everyone... what we are hoping you will do is use this "learners community" to discuss issues relevant to your experiences as student leaders. As "Dance 3 and 4" students according to the state's dance education TEKS you should be given opportunities to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of dance technique, best practices for teaching your peers and you should be participating in the choreographic process/production. Sounds like your regular experiences as dance team officer already...it is just being stated in "edu-speak." The way to use the Wiki page is simple you just click on the "edit" tab in the upper right hand corner. go to the place in the page that you want to work and start typing. When you finish leave a notation at the end of your thoughts that identifies you like (DHS-A) for "Dulles-Amanda" and then scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Save" and then its there for everyone to read and hopefully follow up with other responses. This is not only a great tool for collaborating between campuses but a fun way to do so using the world wide web! (CHS-H)
I'm going to propose several questions to get you started and then I hope you will generate responses back and forth on your own. We, as your teachers will monitor this but we hope that you will speak candidly and openly with each other and this will become a sight you visit frequently.
Excellent Answers so far ...thank you so much for partcipating and opening up! I cleaned up some of the extra space between questions. ( DHS-- Mrs. Hayes)
Question 1 -- What's the biggest difference you perceived from one class/practice setting to the other?
I thought the biggest differences between the two practices were how/when music was used and the length of the warm-up. (CHS-C)
Agreed. (DHS-O)
I thought the biggest difference was the use of music and the different focuses in our warm ups, as Chrissy stated. (CHS-T)
I agree with the other officers in that the biggest difference was the use of music and the flow of the practice. (DHS-JO)
Question 2 -- Warm Up -- Help the other group... what did you think was most "emphasized" and what component of warm up might have been missing...or needed more attention?
I liked the focus on getting down to the root of the movements. I think the warm up was great but lacked a little "freedom" in a sense. (CHS-T)
The emphasis was on the basics, meaning center work and across the floor exercises. However, it needed more focus on building flexibility. (CHS-C)
The emphasis seemed to be focussed more on the tricks and harder moves that the tenique of the moves wasnt getting as much attention. (DHS-O)
The biggest focus appeared to be on leaps, flexibility, and combinations. I think that the attention to technique could have been emphasized more to ensure that the advanced aspects practiced were executed correctly. (DHS-JO)
Question 3 -- Compliment the other group -- finish this sentence -- I really liked the way........
I really liked the way they hit every aspect of technique, both in a jazz and a ballet form, in their warm up. (CHS-T)
I liked the way they incorporated center work in their warm-up. (CHS-C)
I really liked the way each officer got the chance to make up their own across the floor routine. (DHS-O)
I really like the way they focused on arm strengthening as part of their warmup. (DHS-JO)
